Library & Visitor Information Deputy Manager

Newquay Town Council is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Library and Visitor Information Deputy Manager to help lead the delivery of our library and visitor services. This is a key role in shaping the visitor experience in on of Cornwall's most vibrant towns.  

Key Responsibilities: 

Library & Visitor Services Support 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the library and Visit Newquay spaces, ensuring they are welcoming, well-presented, and stocked with up-to-date information. 
  • Provide guidance and support to Library and Visitor Information Officers in handling public queries, tourism literature requests and community group access. 
  • Contribute to library display setups, seasonable themes and community engagement activities. 

Marketing and Promotion

  • Distribute marketing materials across venues and key locations, ensuring consistency with Council branding. 
  • Assist with digital content coordination, supporting the Communications Officer and Visit Newquay teams in maintaining an engaging online presence.
  • Contribute to the promotion of events and campaigns, identifying opportunities for community outreach and visibility. 

Team Supervision and Support 

  • Supervise day-to-day tasks and rota coverage for Library and Visitor Information Officers and volunteers.

Community Engagement and Customer Experience 

  • Act as the Council's frontline representative during library events, library sessions and community showcases.
  • Support business-focused events that promote footfall, local engagement and visitor satisfaction. 
  • Gather informal public feedback during events and use it to inform service improvement discussions.

Operational Support and Customer Experience

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of venue layout, signage and marketing displays.
  • Adapt plans in real-time to address changes in weather, attendance, staffing or site conditions.
  • Respond to minor customer concerns or operation issues, escalating when necessary.

What We're Looking For:

Essential: 

  • ILM or equivalent management/leadership qualification 
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Marketing, Communications or a related field 
  • Strong customer service and public engagement skills 
  • Experience supervising teams and coordinating events 
  • Knowledge of health & safety procedures, including Martyn's Law. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communications tools

Desirable: 

  • NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service, Tourism or Libraries. 
  • Experience in library or tourist information settings. 
  • First Aid or Fire Marshal training.
  • Familiarity with Visit Newquay services.
